The
rear exhuast box needed replacing before the car was to next go in for
its mot, so rather than just replacing this part I decided to replace
the whole exhuast.

|

Damaged Manifold
|
When
I removed the air filters I noticed that a previuos owner had done an
"interesting" modification to the one of the studs on the mainfold.
Rather than replacing/repairing the broken mainfold, they just used a
bolt with some washers on to hold it together.
|
| I
was able to source a good secondhand manifold, from a friend. This is
how it looked after being wire brushed ready for painting |

Replacement Manifold
|

Resprayed Manifold
|
The manifold was resprayed using Halfords Matt Black High Temperature Paint.
|
Removal
of the old system was a relitivley easy task. Having the car on ramps
rather than axles stands made the whole task much easier &
much gave better access.
Undo the manifold bolts support the down pipe undo the hanging bracket
& the tailpipe bracket & lower the old rusty unit. Placing a
jack under the exhaust helps. |

Removing the Carbs |
Once
the air filters have been removed it is advisable to tie the carb
linkages together so they don't come appart when removed, no
need to disconnect the fuel lines either. |
| Simply move them out ot the way & tie up, I tied mine to the bonnet strut. |

Carbs |

Heat Shield Removed |
With the carbs out of the way you can start to remove the heatshield & inlet manifold & the exhaust manifold. |
| Amazing how much room there is on the Manifold,Air filters & Carbs have been removed. |

Gasket & Manifold Fitted |
Now the fun starts, re-fitting the new exhaust.
Fit the manifold gasket & re-sprayed manifold, just loosely
tighteen the bolts to allow the manifold to be manuverd when fitting
the down pipes. |
| The new shiny Stainless Steel Down Pipes. |

Stainless Steel Down Pipes |

Centre Section |
Striagh through center section. Should improve the noise a bit. |
| Shiny Rear Silencer |

Down Pipes
|
Just bolt the down pipes to the manifold, making sure not to over tighteen the brass nuts. |
Slide the centre section in to the the dowpipe & fasten the clamps.
Then attach the rmiddle hanging bracket & fit the clamp. |

Middle Hanging Bracket
|

Much Improved ground clearance
|
Slide the rear box in to the centre section & then attach the rear hanging bracket.
The ground clearance it much improved with the new exhaust. |
| Resprayed Heatsheild & Carb Gaskets & spacers fitted. |

Carbs Re-fitted
|
Carbs re-fitted. Spot the mistake, attached the left had carb spring incorrectly. |
Put the air filter gaskets in place & bolt on the air filters.
The test drive brought a simle to my face & the exhaust has a nice
burble & when pushed a little further towards the floor you can
hear the growl from the rear tail pipe. |
