The rear exhuast box needed replacing before the car was to next go in for its mot, so rather than just replacing this part I decided to replace the whole exhuast.

Damaged Manifold

Damaged Manifold

When I removed the air filters I noticed that a previuos owner had done an "interesting" modification to the one of the studs on the mainfold. Rather than replacing/repairing the broken mainfold, they just used a bolt with some washers on to hold it together.
I was able to source a good secondhand manifold, from a friend. This is how it looked after being wire brushed ready for painting Replacement Manifold

Painted Manifold

Resprayed Manifold
The manifold was resprayed using Halfords Matt Black High Temperature Paint.
Removal of the old system was a relitivley easy task. Having the car on ramps rather than axles stands made the whole task much easier &
much gave better access.

Undo the manifold bolts support the down pipe undo the hanging bracket & the tailpipe bracket & lower the old rusty unit. Placing a jack under the exhaust helps.

Removing the Carbs

Removing the Carbs
Once the air filters have been removed it is advisable to tie the carb linkages together so they don't come appart when removed, no  need to disconnect the fuel lines either.
Simply move them out ot the way & tie up, I tied mine to the bonnet strut. Carbs

Carbs re-fitted. Spot the mistake, attached the left had carb spring incorrectly.
Put the air filter gaskets in place & bolt on the air filters.

The test drive brought a simle to my face & the exhaust has a nice burble & when pushed a little further towards the floor you can hear the growl from the rear tail pipe.
